Who Should Be the Next NASF Sustainability Award Winner?

North Atlantic Seafood Forum now invites nominations for outstanding sustainability achievements across the seafood industry

The North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) has now opened nominations for the NASF Sustainability Award 2027, recognising organisations, initiatives and individuals who are delivering measurable sustainability results across the seafood value chain.

Recognising Real Impact
Following the successful introduction of the award in 2026, NASF is now seeking to recognise organisations, initiatives and individuals whose efforts have delivered measurable sustainability results.
The award welcomes nominations from across the seafood value chain, including fisheries, aquaculture, feed production, seafood processing, technology providers, research institutions and supporting organisations operating wholly or partly within the North Atlantic region.

Gísli Gíslason, Chair of the Jury and Initiator of the Award
"The NASF Sustainability Award was established to recognise those who are delivering measurable sustainability results and to highlight the innovations and solutions helping to create a more sustainable seafood industry. The award places the focus on documented achievements and real impact, assessed against clear criteria by an independent jury.
The success of the first award demonstrated the value of recognising practical solutions and industry leadership. By showcasing these achievements, the award aims to inspire further innovation and accelerate sustainability progress across the global seafood sector."

Veramaris – First Winner of the NASF Sustainability Award
The inaugural NASF Sustainability Award was presented to Veramaris in March 2026. The company was recognised for its production of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids from natural marine microalgae, providing aquaculture with an alternative source of essential nutrients traditionally obtained from wild-caught fish.
The solution demonstrates how research and new technology can help reduce pressure on marine resources while supporting the continued development of aquaculture.

Nominations Now Open
NASF welcomes submissions from companies, organisations, projects, and individuals whose work has resulted in measurable sustainability improvements. Self-nominations are welcome.
Before submitting a nomination, candidates are encouraged to review the NASF Sustainability Award Criteria & Guidelines pdf, 4 MB., which outline eligibility requirements and the assessment framework used by the independent jury.

The winner will be announced at the North Atlantic Seafood Forum in Bergen, 9–11 March 2027.
